The Many Ends of the World - As We Know It

They say the world is going to end on December 21st - to be more precise, 12/21/12 at 11:11. This is because the ancient maya calendar ends then - well, of course it does, because whoever made it had to stop at some point, didn't they? They couldn't go on forever and ever, and someway along the lines someone just forgot to take over!

As you see, I don't believe the world is going to end. You know why? They've cried wolf a few times too many. And to enlighten those of you who didn't read yesterday's friday special in VG, I will enlighten you on what they were talking about.

Year 1284
The year that Pope Innocent III predicted would be the end of the world, a year he reached by adding Satan's number, 666, and 618 - the year he thought to be when Islam was founded.

October 16th, 1736
Doomsday, according to Isaac Newton's student, the theologist William Whiston. He predicted another cataclysm created by a comet that would destroy the Earth on this day.

1875, 1914, 1918, and 1975
All of the above were said to be years the world would come to an end, by the founder of Jehova's Witnesses, Charles Taze Russel.

1974
The Family International - former Children of God - thought the comet Kohoutek would hit the earth this year, and that Jesus Christ would return in 1993.

August 11th, 1999
Profet in the 1500s, Nostradamus', was interpreted to that this would be the Day of Judgement.

2000
Or YK2, as it's also known as, was an error in computer programs that some thought would be of fatal consequences at the turn of the century. Is said to be the world's most lucrative doomsday. It supposedly cost 600 billion dollars to fix the problem world wide.

May 28th, 2008
The little sect The True Russian Orthodox Church went underground awaiting the destruction of the world on this day.

May 21st 1988, September 7th 1994, May 21st 2011, and October 21st 2011
Were all days that the American radio host Harold Camping said the world would go under.

February 1st 2019
The two kilometers wide asteroid 2002 NT7, that was discovered in 2002, was said would hit the earth on this day. It's later been disapproved of, but the danger is not over yet. There's supposedly a slight chance of a crash in 2060, scarily enough the same year that sir Isaac Newton predicted doomsday to come.

Furthermore, I recommend the book The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown. It has some interesting views on this, especially in the end... READ IT!! :D

Actually... I was born in 1992 so that means I've survived the end of the world 6 times by the end of 2011 - and there are more to come!! The only one I might actually believe in is the 2060 one - but I'm not gonna worry about that before I have to, and by the time that year arrives I will be old anyways!

Got anything to say about this?
